Q

The Swing

A

Swing prep exercise: Leader starts with a basic and brings the hand down to signal a cross body lead on 6*. Instead of a regular cross body lead, leader steps out left as if coming around from a swing and at the same time gives follower space from the shoulder blade to move back and create a “rubberband” effect (lead back on 1), followed by a dynamic cross body lead on 2,3, to finish the basic forward. Follower pushes right back on 1, then pushes forward on 2.

Swing step: After the basic on 1,2,3, leader moves close to the follower on 5 (elbow up to create a round frame), then taps with his left on 6 initiating the left rotation, and pushes off with the left on 1 to swing around (while pulling back with the left shoulder to add upper body rotation), landing on 1 to the side for the next cross body lead. Follower finishes the basic on 5,6,7, and feels a rotation on 7 that leads her to step out back on 1, followed by the dynamic cross body lead.
