What animal species are the main sources of Salmonellosis in humans?
Poultry and Swine
Which Salmonella serotype is becoming an increasing problem?
S. Typhimurium, monophasic
- It is highly antibiotic resistant and difficult to treat
What are the clinical signs associated with Salmonellosis in humans?
- Incubation period of 6 - 48 hours (avrg of 24 hrs)
- Diarrhea +/- blood
- Abdominal Pain
- Headache
- Vomiting
- Median infection period = 7 days
note: only really a problem in immunocompromised or have concurrent health issues
There are Salmonella control programs in which domestic animals?
- Poultry
- Pigs
note: Not Bovine, infection from bovine is very rare, but when it does happen, humans tend to be very sick
