Salivary gland tumours
80% are benign
80% occur in parotid
80% are superficial
Majority are : pleomorphic adenoma
Name salivary gland tumours and explain about each one.
Commonest : Pleomorphic adenoma ( parotid ),benign
In children : lymphangioma and haemangioma are the comments in salivary gland of the children
Adenolymphoma: in parotid
Adenoid cystic carcinoma : more commonly in minor than major
What are the signs of a salivary gland to show they are malignant?
Tumours of submandibular , sublingual and minor are more likely malignant than those in parotid
Pointers to malignant change in salivary gland tumours are :
1) fixation to surrounding tissue ,
2) nerve involvement , particularly facial nerve involvement in parotid tumours
3) pain
4) rapid growth
5) lymphadenopathy
Name few rare salivary tumours ( malignant )
Mucoepidermoid carcinoma
Acidic cell carcinoma
Monomorphic adenoma ( benign )
