What is a saint?
Someone who is in heaven. Some saints are ´officially´ recognized by the Catholic Church.
What does the word saint mean?
Comes from the Latin word Sanctus, which means holy or set apart.
How many officially named saints are there?
Over 10,000.
How were early saints decided?
They were martyrs or were decided by the people.
What is the first step of the canonization process?
- People ask the bishop to investigate a saints life.
2 After 5 years, the bishop gives permission for the investigation to start. - The info from the investigation goes to the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints.

What is the second step of the canonization process?
- If the person had ´heroic virtue´ the CCS will recommend them to the pope.
- People are now allowed to ask this person to intercede for them.

What is the third step of the canonization process?
- If prayer requests after death bring about a miracle, then a beautification is set.
- They are given a feast day.
-Blessed-
What is the fourth step of the canonization process?
- When a 2nd miracle occurs, then the person is canonized.
- Churches can be named after this person.

Actual body parts of a saint.
What is a second-class relic?
Something used by a saint.

The catacombs in Rome.
What are some miracles attributed to saints?
Bilocation, incorruptibility, levitation, locution, the odor of sanctity, stigmata.
