Saguindan Flashcards
What is concrete mixture
Cement sand gravel water
Artificial stone made from mixture of cement sand gravel water
Concrete
Three types of substructure
Slab on fill, crawl space, basement
Transfers the load to the earth at the base of the column/wall of the substructure
Shallow foundation
Transfers the load at a point far below the substructure
Deep foundation
A layer of coarse granular materials placed and compacted on undisturbed soil to prevent the capillary rise of moisture
Base coarse
Class aa concrete mix
1:1 1/2:3
Class a concrete mix
1:2:4
Class b concrete mix
1:2 1/2:5
Class c concrete mix
1:3:6
Class a mortar mix
1:2
Class b mortar mix
1:3
Class c mortar mix
1:4
Class d mortar mix
1:5
Structural member whose prime function is to carry transverse loads
Beam
Materials smaller than 9mm diameter
Fine aggregate
Materials over 9mm in size
Coarse aggregate
Max time for concrete to be discharged after the water is poured to the batch
1 1/2 hours
Material other than water aggregate lime or cement used as an ingredient in concrete or mortar added to the batch immediately before or during the mix
Admixture
The main reinforcements are place at right angle perpendicular to the wall uniformly spaced with each other and longitudinal reinforcement parallel with the wall
Wall footing
Voids left in the concrete owing to the failure of the mortar to fill effectively the space among coarse aggregate particles
Honeycomb
A steel reinforcing bar manufactured with surface deformation to provide a locking anchorage with surrounding concrete
Deformed bar
Combined footing formed by intersecting continuous footings
Grid foundation
Short reinforcing bars of steel which extend equally into two abutting pieces of concrete to increase the strength of joints
Dowel
Soil which is replaced in an area that has been excavated
Backfill
Water and cement
Grout
An excavating machine for cutting trenches
Backhoe
A container of known volume used to measure and mix the constituents if a batch of concrete plaster or mortar to ensure proposer proportions
Batch box
Machine that mixes concrete ingredients then moves the mix through a hose to the point of placement
Concrete pump
Mixture of water, cement, and fine aggregate (sand)
Mortar
A steel bar having ribs to provide greater bonding strength when used as a reinforcing bar
Rebar
The upper part of a reinforced concrete floor which is carried on beams below
Slab
Piece of concrete which holds steel reinforcements in its proper positions
Spacer
To connect two similar member by welding or GI wire connection
Splice
Reinforcement device to resist sheer and diagonal tension stresses in beams
Stirrups
Deformed bar used as tie to hold vertical reinforcements
Tie bars
Initial scored layer of concrete wall
Scratch coat
Power oriented machine used to agitate fresh concrete to eliminate gross voids
Vibrator
Upright compression member whose height does not exceed three times it’s lateral dimension
Pedestal
Concrete steel or wood column less that 2 ft in diameter
Pile
Length of steel bars
20 ft/6 m, 25 ft/ 7.5 m, 30 ft/9m, 35ft/10.5m, 40ft/12m
