Phonology

Pragmatics
Studies ways that context contributes to meaning
Expressive Language
Ability to form thoughts into grammatically accurate words and sentences
Receptive Language
Ability to understand/comprehend heard or read language
Verbal Behaviour
Functional account of communication during which instances of verbalizations, vocal or otherwise, were identified by their effect on a listener
Verbal Operants
6 baisc speaker verbal operants identified by Skinner and by the listener operant response
Speaker
When someone can govern the behavior of others by using various topographies of verbal behaviour
Listener
Governed by verbal behavior of others as they respond to vocal sounds and other verbal topographies
Mand
Verbal operant – occurs on under the conditions of deprivation/ aversive control. Reinforced by receiving target stimulus/ removal of a stimulus. Specifies its reinforcer
Tact
Verbal operant – occurs under non-verbal stimulus control. Generalized reinforcement Relevant establishing operation = deprivation of generalized reinforcement
