SAFMED Flashcards
Social Validity
The extent to which the goals, procedures, and outcomes of an intervention are socially acceptable and meaningful to the target population and society.
Function Behavior Assessment (FBA)
A systematic process used to identify the purpose or function of a behavior, typically through indirect assessment, direct observation, and functional analysis.
Functional Analysis (FA)
A method of assessing the function of a behavior by manipulating antecedents and consequences to determine their effect on the behavior in a controlled environment.
Preference Assessment
A procedure used to identify potential reinforcers by observing an individual’s preferences for different stimuli.
Reinforcer Assessment
A procedure to determine the effectiveness of a stimulus as a reinforcer by evaluating its ability to increase the frequency of a behavior.
Motivating Operation (MO)
Environmental events, operations, or stimulus conditions that affect the value of a reinforcer or punisher and influence the behavior that is reinforced or punished.
Establishing Operation (EO)
A type of motivating operation that increases the value of a reinforcer and evokes behavior that has been reinforced by that reinforcer.
Abolishing Operation (AO)
A type of motivating operation that decreases the value of a reinforcer and reduces the behavior that has been reinforced by that reinforcer.
Stimulus Control
The influence of a stimulus on the likelihood of a behavior occurring, based on prior reinforcement or punishment history with that stimulus.
Verbal Behavior
A behavior that is reinforced through the mediation of another person, including vocalizations, sign language, or other forms of communication that require social interaction.
Equivalence Based Instruction
A teaching strategy that involves forming relations between stimuli based on their shared characteristics, leading to the formation of equivalence classes.
Shaping
The process of reinforcing successive approximations of a target behavior to help an individual gradually acquire a complex behavior.
Chaining
A method used to teach complex behaviors by breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps, and linking them together to form a sequence of behaviors. Types of chaining include:
Extinction
The process of withholding reinforcement for a previously reinforced behavior, leading to a decrease in the frequency of that behavior.
Differential Reinforcement
A procedure in which one behavior is reinforced while other behaviors are extinguished or not reinforced.
Token Economy
A system in which individuals earn tokens for desired behaviors that can later be exchanged for other reinforcers or rewards.
