What are the rules for dispensing flammable materials in the lab?
Never dispense them anywhere near an open flame or source of heat
What should you do if something in the lab catches on fire that is not supposed to catch on fire?
Tell your instructor and get the fire extinguisher. Be fully prepped on where the extinguisher and fire blankets are before starting
What counts as appropriate eye protection in the lab, and when should it be worn?
Anytime chemicals, heat or glassware are used, the students will wear laboratory goggles
What should you do if you wear contact lenses?
Don’t wear them unless the instructor gives you permission
What should you do if you do not understand any lab instructions?
Ask your instructor to explain
What should you do with leftover or unused chemicals in a lab?
Dispose of properly. Not in sink!
How should you hold test tubes when heating chemicals over a flame?
Do not point the open end of a test tube toward yourself or others
How should you handle hot glassware in the lab?
Set aside to cool and pick up with caution.
What should you do if you are injured in any way during a lab?
Yell “Code 1, Code 1”
What should you do with all glassware before starting a lab?
Inspect it for broken parts
How should jewelry, long hair, and loose clothing be dealt with in the laboratory?
Remove jewelry, tie back long hair, and secure loose clothing
