Compressed gas
- dissolved gases, gases liquefied by compression or refrigeration.
ex. gas cylinders
Class B refers to?
Flammable & combustible material
Solid, liquids and gases capable of catching on fire or exploding in the presence of a source of ignition.
ex. White phosphorous.
Class C refers to?
Oxidizing material
Materials which cause or contribute to the burning of another material by yielding O2.
Class D (1) refers to?
Poisonous and infectious materials
Materials causing immediate and serious toxic effects. Materials which can cause the death of a person exposed to small amounts.
Ex. NaCN
Class D (2) refers to?
Materials causing other toxic effects
Materials which cause immediate eye or skin irritation as well as those which can cause long-term effects in a person repeatedly exposed to small amounts
Class D (3) refers to?
Biohazardous
infectious material.
Materials which contain harmful microorganisms.
Class E refers to?
Corrosive material
Acid or caustic materials which can destory the skin or eat through metals
ex. muriatic acid, lye
Class F refers to?
Dangerously reactive material
Products which can undergo dangerous reaction if subjected to heat, pressure, shock or allowed to contact water
What purpose does the MSDS serve?
The material safety data sheet gives detailed info on a WHMIS product that complements the information provided on the label.
