What is safeguarding?
- Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
- Preventing harm to children’s health or development
- ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcome
What is child protection?
- Part of the safeguarding process
- Focuses on protecting individual children identified as suffering or likely to suffer significant harm
- Includes child protection procedures which detail how to respond to concerns about a child

What is the definition of a child or young person?
considered in law to be anyone aged 17 years or under

What is a vulnerable adult?
A person aged 18 years old over, who is in receipt of, or maybe in need of community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age or illness and who is all may be unable to take care of themselves, or unable to protect themselves against significant harm or exploitation
What is legislation?
Created after a government inquiry is undertaken. The law is proposed and then ratified in the House of Lords.
Is law and must be followed, including the statutory guidance issued to support the implantation of the law
What is the United Nations convention on the rights of the child?
(UNCRC), is an international agreement and the most ratified international human rights treaty in history (UNICEF 2016)
What is the children act of 2004?
Section 11 places statutory duty on key people and bodies to make arrangements to ensure that in discharging their functions they have regard to the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children
What is general data protection regulation of 2018?
Controls how personal information is used by organisations, businesses, or the government
Everyone responsible for using data has to follow strict rules called data protection principles
What are the data protection principles?
Used fairly and lawfully
Used for limited, specifically stated purpose
Used in a way that it is adequate, relevant, and not excessive
Kept for no longer than necessary
Handled according to people’s data protection rights
Kept safe and secure
When can you share information?
When failure to do so would result in a child or vulnerable adult being placed at risk of farm
What are child protection laws?
In the serious crime 2015 section 76 of the act make sexual communications from an adult to a child is an offence in England and Wales
Digital economy act 2017 extends protection from online pornography by allowing sites which display pornography to children to be blocked in the UK
