What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding is about promoting children and adult’s welfare who are being abused or are vulnerable.
What is a DSL?
It stands for designated safeguarding lead. They are appointed to take lead responsibility for child protection issues in school.
Examples of vulnerable people
Old people
Young children
People with SEND
LAC
People in poor housing
Minorities
People who are socially isolated
Pregnant people
People who are grieving
What is the toxic trio?
Domestic violence, parent’s mental health and substance abuse.
What are the types of abuse and signs?
Physical- Bruises, scarring
Emotional- No confidence.
Sexual- Pregnancy, nightmares.
Neglect- Poor appearance + hygiene.
Child exploitation- Drug use, skipping school
What is whistleblowing?
Whistleblowing is reporting a member of staff for concerns about them breaching safeguarding.
