Q
Define defensive swimming.
A
The default technique for descending a waterway. It allows the rescuer to safely move downstream with the current. The defensive swimming position requires the rescuer to float on their back, facing downstream and feet close to the water surface. In this position the rescuer can see ahead and the risk of foot entrapment is reduced. The feet can also fend off obstacles, protecting the head and spine.
