Sacrum, Coccyx, Lumbar Spine Flashcards
Sacrum (Info)
o The sacrum is found at the base of the spine
o It made up of five fused vertebrae
o It is classified as an irregular bone
o Pyramidal in shape with a wide superior base and creates a kyphotic curve
Coccyx (Info)
o The coccyx is four fused vertebrae
o It is classified as an irregular bone
o Similar to the sacrum, the wide portion is at its superior end, and continues the final kyphotic curve of the vertebral column
Lumbar (Info)
o The 5 lumbar vertebrae are the largest and strongest in the vertebral column
o The bodies are oval and wide for optimal weight bearing
o L1 – L4 are considered typical lumbar vertebrae
o L5 is considered atypical
* Classified as Irregular
