Sacromeres Flashcards
0
Q
Myofilaments
A
- found within fibrils
- NOT contractile
- two kinds, made of different proteins: thick filaments (myosin), thin filaments (actin, plus others)
1
Q
Muscle fibers
A
- smallest individually contractile unit
- contain many fibrils
- fibrils all contract when stimulated or not all at
- fibrils contain many myofilaments and are segmented into sacromeres
2
Q
Thick filaments
A
- made if many myosin proteins
- shaped like little hockey sticks
- head can change angle (requires energy)
- heads want to bind with thin (actin) filaments
3
Q
Thin filaments
A
- contain several proteins
- double-strand of actin
- troponin-tropomyosin complex (twist around actin)
- tropomyosin strand
- dotted with troponin
- like barbed wire
- prevent myosin heads from bonding to actin
