Sacral Plexus
Lumbosacral plexus L4, L5
Anterior primary rami S1-S4
Branches of the sacral plexus which supply the buttock and lower limb
Superior gluteal N Inferior gluteal n Sciatic N Nerve to Obturator Internus Muscle Nerve to quadratus femoris muscle Posterior cutaneous nerve to thigh
Superior gluteal N
L4, L5, S1 - Gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, and tensor fasciae latae muscle (Not gluteus maximus*)
Inferior gluteal N
L5, S1, S2 - Gluteus maximus*
Sciatic N
L4 - S3 - Numerous structures in the lower extremity
Nerve to obturator internus muscle
L5, S1, S2 - Obturator internus and superior gamellus muscles
exits thru the greater sciatic foramen inferior to piriformis and then enters thru the perineum thu the lesser sciatic foramen
Nerve to quadratus femoris muscle
L5, S1 - quadratus femoris and inferior gemellus muscles
Posterior cutaneous nerve of thigh
S1, S2, S3 - sensory to part of gluteal region and perineum (anal triangle)
Branches to the Sacral Plexus which supply the pelvis
Nerve to piriformis muscle
Nerves to levator ani and coccygeus muscles
nerve to external anal sphincter muscle
Pudendal Nerve
Coccygeal plexus
anterior primary rami S4, S5 and the coccygeal Nerve
Supplies the sacrococcygeal joint, the coccyx, and overlying skin
