what is development?
a series of changes that occur in a predictable orderly matter
eg. walking, talking, pubity
What is a relationship
the connections between two or more people and their involvement and behaviour with one another
Physical development
refers to those changes that occurs in an individuals body overtime, including growth. the changes that relate to people’s size, shape and therefore body structure.
four stages of intellectual development
sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational and formal operational
What is puberty?
is the time signifying the end of childhood and during which significant changes to the way an individuals body structure and functions occur in terms of sketal and sexual maturation It is the time of development when young people become physically mature and capable of reproduction
the endocrine system
is a body system made up of glands that release hormones in order to control body functions
hormones
are a chemical substances produced by the body that acts to regulate and control a wide range of body processes, including physical growth and development.
primary sexual characteristics
characteristics that develop during puberty related to the development of the sex organs and reproductive system of males and females, enabling them to reproduce
lifespan
the time in which life begins at conception and ends at death.
death
the time in which someone’s life comes to an end
stages of lifespan
prenatal, infancy, childhood, adolescent, adulthood
social development
the increasing complexity of behaviour patterns used in relationships with other people.
gross motor skills
refers to the ability to control the movement of larger muscle groups within the body. Muscles or groups of muscles should act in a series of movements.
intellectual development
also referred to as cognitive development, the way in which people are able to think and reason. this time of development involves changes in hoe a person is able to think and reason as they grow older.
fine motor skills
involves small muscle movements of the hands, feet and muscles of the hand (such as the tounge, lips and facial muscles) in coordination with the eyes, and the use of very precise motor movements in order to achieve a particularly delicate tasks.
emotional development
refers to feelings ang moods, and the way in people express, understand and exercise control over them
motor skills
the ability to move, through gaining and exercising control over the large and small muscles of the body.
Stages of the lifespan
Prenatal, infancy, childhood, adolescent, adulthood
Growth spurt
a period involving a rapid increase in height and body mass, which occurs as a consequence of the onset of puberty
