What is a flatter management structure?
Where an organization reduces their number of levels of management to give greater responsibility to individuals in the organization
What is a management structure
Looks at the levels of managements and how they’re arranged within a LSO. They tend to be in a hierarchy.
Three types of management structure
Functional, divisional and matrix
What is a functional structure?
Employees are grouped together in separate departments according to the tasks they will perform. For example an accountant would be part of finance department
What is a divisional structure
Groups employees together according to divisions that may be geographical or customer, product or process focused
What is a matrix structure
Involves bringing together specialist from different parts of the organization to solve specific projects in teams
What is corporate culture?
Refers to values, ideas, expectations and beliefs shared by members of the organisation
What does planning mean
The process of setting objectives and deciding on the methods to achieve them.
What is Strategic planning
- Takes 3-5 years to plan
- Determines where the organization wants to be in the future
- what the organization wants to achieve in relation to it’s competitors
What is tactical planning
- Takes 1-2 years
- flexible and adaptable planning
- helps implement a strategic plan
- allows organizations to respond quickly to changes internally and externally
What is operational planning
- Takes weeks to a year
- provides specific details of the way the organization will operate in short term
- management controls day to day operations to achieve short term action and objectives
What’s the planning process? DADIM
- Define the objective - what you want to achieve
- Analyze the environment - SWOT
- Develop alternative strategies
- Implement an alternative - choose a plan
- Monitor and seek feedback on the implemented strategy - setting targets to check if met if not repeat process
What does organizing mean
The process of arranging resources (such as staff) and tasks to achieve objectives
What is leading
The process of influencing or motivating people to work towards the achievement of the organizations objectives
What is controlling
The process if evaluating performance and taking corrective action to ensure that the objective is set and achieved
