What are the two functions of the testes?
Produce sperm & Produce testoserone
What is the function of the scrotum?
A pouch that protects the testes and keeps them at the right temperature to produce sperm.
What is the definition of penis and what is its function?
A tube shaped organ that extends from the trunk of the body just above the testes. It releases semen into the female body.
What is the definition of semen.
A mixture of sperm and fluids that protect sperm and carry them through the tubes of the male.
What is ejaculation?
A series of muscle contractions at the height of sexual arousal.
What is fertilization?
The joining of a male sperm and a female egg.
What is nocturnal emission?
Ejaculations that occur when sperm is released during sleep. (wet dreams)
What are vas deferens?
Tubes that take sperm from testes to the urethra.
What is the urethra?
The passageway through wich both semen and urine leave the male body.
What are the different care instructions for the male repro system?
- Get regular checkups every year.
- Bathe regularly/use deoderant
- Wear protective equipment to shield organs during physical activity.
- Perform self examinations
- Practice abstinence to avoid STI’s
List the disorders of the male repro system
- STI’s - genital herpes
- Sterility - inability to produce sperm
- Testicular torsion
- Inguinal hernia
- Testicular cancer
What are the two functions of the female reproductive system?
Produce female sex hormones and store reproductive cell
What are the functions of the uterus?
Nourish & feed egg, protect egg
What are ovaries?
Produces and stores egg, produces female sex hormones.
What is ovulation?
Releasing of a mature egg into the fallopian tubes.
What is erection?
When blood flow to the penis increases, it becomes enlarged and erect.
What are fallopian tubes?
Tubes that draw in the egg, and if a sperm is present, unite.
What is the definition and purpose of the vagina?
Muscular elastic passageway that extends from the uterus to the outside of the body. Sperm enter female body through vagina.
What is implantation?
When a zygote leaves the fallopian tubes, enters uterus, and implants itself in the uterine wall to grow.
What is the cervix?
The opening of the uterus where blood passes through.
What is menstruation and how long does one menstrual cycle last?
The shedding of the uterine line - 28 days.
How long does the average menstrual period last?
5-7 days
