Q

AWS SNOW FAMILY
Data Migration
3 Types

A

Snowcone
Snowball Edge
Snowmobile

15
Q

Snowcone

(AWS SNOW FAMILY
Data Migration )

A

Small, portable, rugged, secure.

Light weight
Online or Offline

Device used for edge computing storage and data transfer

Snowcone - 8 TB of HHD

Snowcone -14TB of SSD Storage

Up to 24 TB

Must provide own battery or cable

Use when space limited.

16
Q

Snowball Edge

(AWS SNOW FAMILY
Data Migration )

A

Physical data transport solution

Pay per data transfer job

Provide block storage of S3 compatible object storage

Snowball Edge Storage Optimized

Snowball Edge Compute Optimized

Offline.

Up to Pedabytes usage

Use Case:
Large data cloud migrations
DC decommission
Disaster recovery

17
Q

Snowmobile

(AWS SNOW FAMILY
Data Migration )

A

Transfer exabytes of data
1,000,000 TBs
Each snowmobile has 100 PB of capacity
High Security
Offline

18
Q

Snowcone

(AWS SNOW FAMILY
Edge Computing )

A

Snowcone and Snowcone SSD (smaller)
Wired or Wireless access

19
Q

Snowball Edge

(AWS SNOW FAMILY
Edge Computing )

A

Snowball Edge - compute Optimized

Snowball Edge - Storage Optimized

All can run EC2 instances and AWS Lambda functions

Long term deployment options (1-3 years)

20
Q

Why AWS with Snowball Family?

A

Challenges:
Limited Connectivity
Limited Bandwith
Shared Bandwith
High network cost
Connection Stability

Snow Family- Offline devices to perform data migrations.

It if takes more than a week to transfer data over network, use Snowball device.

21
Q

Snow Family Usage

A

Request Device
Install snowball client
Connect the snowball to your servers and copy files
Ship back the device when you’re done (goes to the right AWS facility)
Data will be loaded into S3 bucket
Snowball is wiped.

22
Q

What is Edge Computing?

A

When you process data while it is being created at edge location

23
Q

What is edge location

A

Doesn’t have internet or is far away from cloud.

Ex:
Truck on the road
Ship on the sea
Mining sea

Limited/ no internet access
Limited/ no easy access to computing power

24
Q

Use cases of Edge Computing

A

Preprocess Data
Machine learning at the edge
Transcoding meda streams

Eventually data loading and shipping back.

25
Q

AWS OpsHub

A

Software you install on CPU or laptop
gives graphical interface to connect to snow devices.

unlocking and configuring single or multiple devices.

26
Q

AWS Storage Gateway

A

Bridge file systems and storage//what happens on premises to AWS Cloud

27
Q

Types of Storage Gateway

A

File gateway
Volume Gateway
Tape Gateway
