HELLO packets
A
When a router is booted, it learns about its neighbours by sending HELLO packets. The neighbouring routers then reply with their names

ECHO packets (3)
A
- it is used to determine the delay between routers
- As soon as a router receives an ECHO packet, it immediately sends it back.
- The router that originally sent the ECHO packet will use the round trip time to determine the transmission time. Averaging can be used for more accurate results.
