What is a hypothesis test?(3)
- mathematical procedure
- to examine the value of a population parameter
- proposed by the null hypothesis an can paired with an alternative hypothesis
Define population (statistics)
An entire set of individuals or items
What is finite population?
A population where each individual can be given a number
What is an infinite population?
A population where it is impossible to number each member
Define ‘statistic’(3)
- random variable
- that is a function of known observations
- from a sample involving no unknown parameters.
What is a sampling distribution?
The distribution of a statistic
What is a sampling frame?
A list of all the members of the population
What is a sampling unit?
An individual member or element of the population or sampling frame
What is a census?
When every member of the population is investigated
What is a sample?
A selection of items or individuals from the population to represent the entire population
Define critical region
The range of values of a statistic that would lead you to reject the null hypothesis
