7
Q

why voting should not be compulsory

A

Voting should not be compulsory because some people might not have an opinion. If they do not want to vote then they should not be made to vote. Evidence to support this is people do not vote on certain things like the EU elections because they are not interested in it and that is their decision.

What is first past the post first past the post is when you get 326 mps when you get 326mps you form a government if you got 215 you could join with other parties to get 326mps
constinsionses =1mp

An MP elected in a constituency and whoever gets the most votes wins. there 650 constituencies. A government is elected when they get 326 MPs because they are first to get the majority. For example, if they got 215 they could join 1 or more parties to make 326.

First Past the Post (FPTP) is how we elect MPs to the House of Commons at Westminster.
During a general election, voters choose a candidate to represent their constituency.
The candidate with most of the votes wins the seat.
A party needs a majority of seats to form a government. If they don’t achieve this they might need to form a coalition.
