S1 Physics Test Flashcards
What are the three different states of matter what are they called?
Solid, Liquid and Gas
How is density measured?
mass(g) divided by volume(cm³)
What is the most dense to the least dense in the three states of matter?
Most Dense - Solid - Liquid - Gas - Least Dense
What is the density of water?
1g/cm³
Do objects float or sink if they are more dense than water?
Sink
Do objects float or sink if they are less dense than water?
Float
What is heat?
Heat is a type of energy that flows from hotter to cooler objects
What is temperature?
Temperature is a measure of heat
What is conduction?
Conduction occurs as heat energy makes atoms vibrate faster. These more energetic atoms bounce into each other and transfer heat
When is conduction most likely to occur, think of the three states?
Solids conduct the best. As you need dense objects to easily transfer the heat between atoms
What is convection?
When heat is transferred in liquids and gases we have convection
How does convection occur?
Convection occurs as heat causes the liquid / gas around a hot object to rise and spread heat around an area
What is radiation?
When heat transfers through nothing by transferring through infrared waves it is called radiation
Does white absorb or reflect heat?
Reflect
Does black absorb or reflect heat?
Absorb
What is the top of a wave called?
Crest
What is the bottom of a wave called?
Trough
What is the line in the middle between one of the waves?
Equilibrium
What is it called in between the crest and the wavelength?
Amplitude
What is it called in between two troughs and two Crests?
Wavelength
What happens when a sound gets louder on a wave?
The amplitude increases
What happens when a sound gets quieter on a wave?
The amplitude decreases
What happens when the pitch gets higher on a wave?
The frequency increases
What happens when the pitch gets lower on a wave?
The frequency decrease
