S-95 DECK #2 - SUPV OF ALARM SYSTEMS Flashcards
What year of FIRE CODE made dramatic changes to how and what buildings had to be “protected” and monitored by a CENTRAL STATION?
2008.
Buildings with Alarm Systems generally require 1 of 3 different types of Certificates of Fitness. What are those CoFs?
T/F-89 Fire and Life Safety Director (FLSD), F-80 Fire Safety Coordinator of Homeless Shelters (FSC), and S-95 Supervisor of Fire Alarm and Other Emergency Systems.
What is the defnition of a HIGH RISE BUILDING?
Any building that is 75’ or higher from the point of Fire Dept. access (normally the ground level).
What is the definition of a LOW RISE BUILDING?
Any building that is 74’ or less in height from the point of Fire Dept. access (normally the ground level).
A 3-story homeless shelter with 4 open sleeping bays on the 2nd and 3rd floor and equipped with an Interior Fire Alarm system would require what CoF to supervise the alarm system?
F-80 Fire Safety Coordinator of Homeless Shelters. If it is a LOW-RISE BUILDING and a homeless shelter… it requires an F-80 FSC.
A 5 story building that is 59’ high and equipped with warden phones on all floors would require what CoF to supervise the alarm system?
T/F-89 FLSD. Any building that is equipped with two-way communications (WARDEN PHONES) regardless of how tall it is, requires FLSDs.
A 15 story building that is 164’ in height has 5 rooms per floor on the 2-15 floors and the alarm panel has a PA (one-way communication) System. What type of CoF would be required for this building?
T/F-89 FLSD. If a building is equipped with 1-way or 2-way communications and has 50 or more rooms above the ground floor, it must have an FLSD.
A 10 story hotel with 120 rooms is converted into a temporary homeless shelter. What type of CoF would be required?
T/F-89 FLSD. The type of CoF in this case is based on the building and alarm system - not the fact that it is converted to a homeless shelter. With 120 rooms and being a high-rise, it would require FLSDs even though it is being used as a homeless shelter.
A low-rise building equipped with an IFA system would require what CoF?
A low-rise building 74’ or less in height would only require an INTERIOR FIRE ALARM (IFA) system. There is no 1-way communication which is a PA System. There is no indication it is a homeless shelter. So it requires an S-95.
A HIGH-RISE building is equipped with a Class E alarm system. What type of CoF is required?
T/F-89 FLSD. The building is a high-rise property which means it requires a full alarm system (Class E is for office buildings). Therefore it would need an FLSD.
What is the difference between a T-89 and F-89?
T-89 is an FLSD in a Hotel. It is “Temporary” until FDNY issues standards on non-fire emergencies for hotels. F-89 is for a commerical high-rise office building which includes both a Fire Safety and Emergency Action Plan.
What types of buildings would you find an APPROVED FIRE ALARM SYSTEM?
