S-70A-9 Starting Engines

Question 1

If any of these indications occur, perform EMERG ENG SHUTDOWN

Answer 1

• No TGT indication within 45 s
• No engine RPM within 45 s
• No engine oil pressure within 45 s
• Ng stops acceleration at or before reaching 40%
• ENGINE STARTER caution light extinguish before reaching 52% Ng
• TGT reaches 869 C before IDLE is achieved

If start is attempted with engine IGNITION switch OFF, do not place switch ON. Complete EMERGENCY ENGINE SHUTDOWN procedure.

Answer 3

• If an ENGINE STARTER caution light extinguished when the starter is released and ENG PCL is OFF, the start attempt may be continued by pressing and holding the starter button while advancing the ENG PCL from OFF to IDLE. The button should be released between 52% and 65% Ng.
• To avoid damage to the engine start micro switches, do not move the ENG PCL(s) from IDLE to OFF with the starter button depressed.
