Ryan dumby questions Flashcards
What are the 4 main components in the vapour compression refrigeration cycle?
Condenser, expansion valve evaporator, compressor
these are in order depending where you start from
Low pressure side of refrigerant cycle is:
the low pressure side starts from the outlet of the expansion valve(metering device), through the evaporator, to the inlet of the compressor.
High Pressure side of refrigerant cycle is:
the high pressure side starts from the outlet of the compressor, through the condenser, to the inlet of the expansion valve(metering device)
Define superheating:
the addition of heat to a vapour, which elevates the temperature higher than the boiling point.
(Evaporator)
Define desuperheating:
the removal of heat from a superheated vapour
(condenser)
Define sub cooling;
the removal of heat from a saturated liquid
(metering device/condenser)
What happens to the refrigerant as it passes through the expansion valve?
Pressure decrease; temperature decrease.
In which component is the refrigerant de-superheated, condensed, and sub-cooled?
Condenser
What is the purpose of the compressor in a refrigeration cycle?
Create low pressure in evaporator/ high pressure in the condenser
Why must the pressure be raised before sending the refrigerant to the condenser?
To raise the condensing temperature so gas can become a liquid
What is the purpose of a centrifugal chiller?
to supply chilled water to a cool building
What type of condenser uses air flow and water evaporation?
Evaporative Condenser
kinda like a cooling tower
why do they do this to us?!?!
