From 1894, Russia was controlled by Tsar Nicholas II, an unsuited leader that was afraid of change. He led an autocratic state where he had complete power over the Russian people which they were becoming greatly opposed to as the majority were living in extreme poverty with no help from their ruler. This is what led to the first Russian revolution in 1905.
