Problem with Russia before 1914
Russia was too big for one person to rule.
What difficulties did the Russian army have during WW1?
The army was led badly and treated poorly by aristocrats.
What was the Russian army short of?
They were short on rifles, artillery, ammunition, and shells.
Why did Tsar Nicholas the Second thought he was the ruler of Russia?
Because he believed that God had put him into this position.
How did WW1 affect the Russian people?
It affected the Russian people very badly because they lost a lot of their family members due to the number of soldiers gone. 1700000 people died and 2500000 people were prisoners of war or went missing.
What does Tsar mean in English?
Tsar means “king” in Russian
Why was it a mistake for Tsar Nicholas the Second to take personal charge of the army?
Because it is impossible for one person to rule an entire army of 13 million soldiers. Evidence shows that Russia has had 9.15 casualties out of 13 million soldiers. That is over 70% of the whole army!
How was the life of peasants difficult?
Famine and starvation were very common. They didn’t have enough money to pay for basic education and it wasn’t provided. Very few peasants can read or write.

Why were the soldiers enthusiastic to fight for their country?
Many peasants felt that they were fighting to defend their country from the Germans. But they weren’t fighting for the loyalty of Tsar.
