There have been many in the Uk’s rural landscape in recent years due to modern developments in farming practises. These include:
- Diversification: generating income through non-farming acts.
- New technology: using machinery, chemicals and irrigations.
- Organic farming: growing crops without using chemicals.
- GM food: crops derived from scientifically altered seeds.
- Current government policy.

Explain what is diversification and give examples.
A
Diversification is generating income from doing non-farming activities. Examples of diversification include:
- renting out cottages as holiday homes
- running bed and breakfast facilities
- setting up camp and caravan sites
- opening petting farms
- organising educational tours
- setting up cafes
- selling local produce in farm shops
- offering adventure activities such as quad biking, paintball and pony trekking.
