Maintain SA
- clearance before entering/crossing hold line
- clear before entering runway
- listen to radio to build a mental picture

Distraction
- prepare ahead of time
- checklists/avionics
- sterile cockpit
- appropriate cockpit activities

Airport Diagram
- helps with SA
- better with ForeFlight
- record taxi instruction (forget)
- trace out route on diagram
- quick reference

Request Progressive Taxi

Study Diagrams Prior
- expected common routes
- but be ready for changes

Briefing prior to moving
- route
- hotspots / hazards
- notams construction

Steering
- maintain centerline
- don’t mess with radio

Landing and rollout
- dash across the dash
- parallel or intersecting
- briefing TPC

Standard Phraseology

Eliminate expectation bias
- anticipate but really listen
-

Uncontrolled airports
- assume all are active
- become familiar with local pattern/flows/runways
- no radio required so Look around
- clear blind spots (including tree lines)

Communicate IAW the AIM

Light up to be visible

Night
- proper use of lights per AIM and FAR
- light up crossing or taking runway
- familiar with airport lights

Reduce visibility
- use lights
- follow centerline
- use signs
- hold lights
- wide taxiways

Record instructions (have a pen).
Readback.
Review/trace on diagram.
Brief self/crew: route, hotspots.
Then, and only then, release brakes to taxi.

Each runway requires a clearance to cross!
