Q

Diphthong

A

A diphthong is a vowel containing both a strong vowel (a, e, o) and a weak vowel (I, u) or two weal vowels.

  • An accent mark on the weak vowel breaks up the diphthong when a strong and a weak one are next to each other
  • to break up a diphthong made of two weak vowels, the first one is given a written accent mark
