What are the rules about pavements?
- Pavements should be used if provided.
- If there is no pavement keep to the right hand side of the road so that you can see oncoming traffic.
- be prepared to walk in single file
- keep close to the side of the road
What should you make sure you do in the dark?
Make sure that you can be seen. You can do this by wearing or carrying something light-coloured, bright or fluorescent.
What should you do with young children?
They shouldn’t be alone
You should keep between them and the traffic
They should be holding your hand or in a push chair
What should people on organised walks remember?
Use pavement if possible.
If not possible, keep left.
People at the front and back should be look outs and should wear fluorescent clothes in daylight and reflective clothes in the dark.

Motorways or slip roads.

a. Find a safe place to cross
b. Stop just before you get to the kerb
c. Look all around for traffic and listen
d. If traffic is coming, let it pass
e. When it’s safe, go straight across the road - do not run
What should a pedestrian do at a junction?
When crossing the road, look about for traffic turning into the road.
What should pedestrians do when they see safety barriers?
Cross the road in the gaps.
What is tactile paving?
It is raised surfaces that can be felt underfoot to provide warning and guidance to blind or partially sighted people. They are used at crossing points with a dropped kerb.
What should pedestrians do at one way streets?
Check which way the traffic moving.
What should pedestrians do at bus and cycle lanes?
Take care when crossing these lanes as traffic may be moving faster than in other lanes, or against the flow of traffic.
What should pedestrians do when walking on routes shared with cyclists?
Stay on the pedestrian side.
What should pedestrians do around cars?
1- If you have to cross between cars use the outside edges of the cars as if they were the kerb
2- Never cross the road behind or in front of a running car
3- Never cross behind a reversing car
4- YOU MUST NOT get onto or hold onto a moving car
