FUNCTON:
All members shall be governed by the following definitions of terms employed in this Rules and Regulation manual.
SHALL AND WILL:
The words “Shall” and “Will” as used herein shall indicate that the action is mandatory.
MAY AND SHOULD:
“May is permissive. “Should” is advisory. where used it is intended that, while the procedure is not mandatory, it should be followed in the interest of the department.
TENSE:
Words used in the present tense include the future.
PLURALITY:
The singular includes the plural and the plural includes the singular.
IMMEDIATELY:
The term “Immediately” is to be construed to mean “As soon as possible and practicable”.
CHIEF’S OFFICE:
The central building in the City of Brownsville in which the administrative and staff personnel of the department are domiciled.
DEPARTMENT:
The Fire Department of the City of Brownsville.
COMPANY:
A unit composed of a commanding officer, who may be a Lieutenant or Captain, a Chauffeur and as many Fire Fighters as may be deemed necessary.
SHIFT:
A division is divided into three (3) Shifts designated as “A”, B”; “C”
DETAIL:
Members of the department grouped together for the accomplishment of a specific mission.
POST:
A fixed point or location to which a member is assigned for duty. It is a place to
which a member is assigned at the Chiefs office or District station; it is also the location here a member is assigned for specific duty.
MEDIC UNIT:
An ambulance with two certified EMS personnel.
ORDER:
An instruction or directive, written or oral, issued by a superior officer to a subordinate or group of subordinate in the course of duty.
GENERAL ORDERS:
Will be used to change, alter, or amend Fire Department Rules and Regulations and shall be kept in a permanent file.
