A
- actions completed in the past (j’ai fini mes devoirs)
- something that happened a specific number of times (j’y ai mangé deux fois)
- a change in state of being, new feeling
j’ai été inspiré par ton success - Started in the past and continues today j’y ai souvent mangé (and might again)
*il a toujours voulu étre médicine (and still does today)

Imparfait Uses
A
- a description of something in the past at the time of something else (it was cold, while I was running, etc) - paints a picture
- in complete actions, no indication of if or when it finished (je faisais mes devoirs… - I was doing my homework…)
- habits (j’etudiais le lundi - I studied on mondays)
- on going state of being or a feeling (j’aimais l’ecole - I loved school
- most verbs followed by an infinitive (J’allais t’appeller - I was going to call you)

- knowing a skill / how to do something - il sait nager
- knowing a piece of information
Savez-vous New York? (do you know of New York, not have you indepth knowledge or been there) - To know + question/infinitive/nothing
- to know of something/somewhere

Describing people - C’est + determiner + noun (with or without an adjective)
C’est le docteur / C’est ma jeune soeur / Ce sont nos voisins - Il est + adjective
Il est sympa / Ils sont sages
Inanimate nouns - C’est + noun that may or may not be modified by an adjective C’est une jolie maison / La musique, c’est bon (music - in gerneral - is good)
- Il est + adjective that describes the specific noun. Elle est jolie (it is pretty)
La musique, elle est bonne (the music - that we are listening to right now - is good)
