Applies to all members of bpd, sworn and civilian

Must live in Boston/change of address/phone must be notified in 24 HOURS
Section 8
Directives and Orders A. Order - Must Obey -
B. Improper Order - must obey, then appeal
C. Conflicting order - promptly and respectfully notify, then obey
Section 9
must treat ALL respectfully at ALL times, on/off duty
Section 10
Reporting for duty
a. on time and place specified
b. be physically and mentally fit for duty
c. properly equipped and cognizant of the info required for duty
d. accountable for all new orders and information
e. Can NOT work more than 18 hours in a 24 hour period
i. Exceptions are for Emergencies only.
ii. Officers must immediately notify superior if ordered to work more than 18 hours.
90 Hour Rule
Cannot work more than 90 hours in 1 week (08 SAT to 08 SAT) ii. Any tour of duty missed due to illness or injury, suspension or admin leave shall also be included in the calculation of the total of hours worked iii. Only includes actual hours worked (i.e. paid for 4 hr detail, but only
worked 2 hours)
iv. Exceptions: In the interest of public safety - Court appearances,
Mandatory overtime, Public necessity (emergencies)
Section 11
no earrings or studs in uniform
Section 12
may NEVER sleep on duty
Section 13
many NEVER use alcohol on duty and NEVER tobacco ANYTIME
a. Tobacco use doesn’t matter the state or country, CAN NOT DO IT
Section 14
use of alcohol off duty must not be obnoxious, offensive or discrediting
Section 15
Can NOT store alcohol at any police property or vehicle
Section 16
Can NOT use drugs
a. Prescriptions must be used correctly
b. Must notify in writing (26) before the next tour of duty
