Q

All about free throws.

A

Free throws are awarded when a foul is committed against a member of a team which is in control of the ball. If the player taking a free throw steps over the foul line before the ball hits the rim or enters the basket it is a violation and the other team takes the ball at the side. Rebounders must occupy 3 positions marked on the key. The position closest to the basket must be occupied by the offending team. Rebounders cannot move until the ball has touched the rim of the basket.

18
Q

All about the bonus shots.

A

Bonus shots are allowed when 7 fouls are recorded against a team in either half of a game, each successive foul creates a bonus situation. If the first shot is successful, a second shot is awarded and if the second shot is successful the opponents throw in under the basket to put the ball in play.

19
Q

All about the alternating possessions.

A

Is the method of putting the ball in play by a throw-in. The possession arrow is a device located at the scorers table which is used to indicate the direction of a teams basket for the alternating possession procedure. After the jump ball, from that point on, possession of the ball after such things as common fouls, are determined by the direction of the possession arrow.
