When should you avoid beginning a journey? Why?
Between midnight and 6am, this is when the body’s natural alertness is lowest
How often should you take breaks and how long should they be?
A 15 minute break every two hours
If you are tired on the motorway, can you stop on the hard shoulder?

What does the light at the bottom back of a car mean?
The driver intends to reverse
What should you do if an authoritive figure flashes amber lights at you?
Follow them to a safe place to stop or pull over behind them
What does flashing headlights mean?
It is to inform someone else you are there
When can you not use your horn?
While stationary, between 11:30 pm and 7am in a built up area
When should you use dipped headlights?
At night or in dull daytime weather, and when overtaking
How should you break in normal circumstances?
Early and lightly then more firmly as you begin to stop, you should ease off before the vehicle stops
How should you break in an emergency?
Immediately but not so harshly that you lock your wheels and lose control
How can you recover from a skid?
Ease off the brake/acceleration pedal (whichever caused the skid) and steer in the direction of the skid
What should you do after driving through deep water?
Test your brakes. If they arent fully effective, gently apply light pressure while driving slowly to dry them out
What is coasting?
Travelling in neutral/with the clutched pressed down. Dont do it.
What is the speed limit in built up areas?
30 mph
What is the speed limit in single carriageways?
60mph
