Visiting Team B’s captain notices that Team B’s pregame warm-up balls are of a different type than the official game ball. Team B’s coach requests that Team B be allowed to warm-up using the type of ball to be used in the game.
Ruling: Any official informs Team A game management that Team B shall be allowed to warm-up with same type of ball that will be used during the game.
A game is being played in an arena with a game clock displayed on the shot clock located above the basket as well as in another location in the arena. Which is the official game clock?
The referee designates the official game clock. However, when game clock is displayed with shot clock, it shall be the official game clock. The game clock MUST show 10ths-of-a-second when less than one minute remains in any period.
The visiting team is advised that its bench be located:
- Farther from the division line that the home team.
2. On the opposite end line from the home team.
Teams have same color uniforms. Ruling?
Home team should wear “light” color. However, this rule may be altered by mutual consent. When doubt, officials will require home team to change.
Which patches are legal between the base of the front neckline and the shoulder sham of the jersey?
- American flag (left side only)
- institution logo/mascot
- conference logo/mascot
- commemorative/memorial patch
The U1 tells A1 to tuck in jersey then issues warning to coach of Team A. Later, A2 is fouled. Before giving A2 disposal of ball for FT, the U1 notices A2’s shirt is untucked. Ruling?
A2 is permitted to shoot. If FTs successful, A2 must leave the game. If FTs unsuccessful and shirt not tucked in before next dead ball, A2 will be instructed to leave the game.
A3 is wearing an illegal undershirt or undergarment. Can A3 remain in the game?
No. A3 must leave the game and remove illegal garments (similar to jewelry). No technical foul will be assessed.
Substitute A6 attempts to enter the playing court with a headband or wristband that is not a single, dominant color of the game jersey, black, white, or beige. Ruling?
A6 may not enter game until removing illegal ones or wearing appropriate color.
Before the start of the game, the officials notice that A1 is wearing white knee pads, A3 is wearing a black knee sleeve and A5 is wearing a blue knee brace. Ruling?
Knee/leg sleeves may be white, black, beige or the color of the game shorts and teammates must wear the same color. EXCEPT a knee brace that contains hinges and/or straps and/or an opening over the kneecap. The sleeve worn under the knee brace can be either the same color as the knee brace or the same color of the knee/leg sleeves worn by teammates.
Important: When players do not comply with this rule, officials are NOT TO TELL PLAYERS TO REMOVE ANYTHING, but are to instruct them/their coach that they are not permitted to play until they comply with this rule.
Substitute A6 attempts to enter the playing court wearing jewelry, an illegal headpiece, helmet or hat. Ruling?
No. A6 is not allowed to enter game until the illegal items are removed.
A6 cannot “buy” his way into the game via a technical foul either.
During a live ball, an official notices player A5 wearing jewelry. Ruling?
At the first dead ball, A5 must remove jewelry immediately or leave the game.
A5 cannot “buy” his right to wear the jewelry via a technical foul either.
