Q

What were the effects of hyperinflation ?

A

Hyperinflation meant that people with savings or
on a fixed income found themselves bankrupt.
• Inflation benefitted certain people. Businessmen who had borrowed money from banks were able
to pay off these debts.
• Food shortages led to an increase in prices , which
helped farmers.
• Foreigners who were in Germany suddenly found
they had a huge economic advantage . Foreigners
could afford things that most Germans could not.
• In November 1923 £1 = 1,680,800,000,000,000
marks
