Rubber Dam isolation Flashcards
When do we use a rubber dam?
- Anterior Composite and porcelain veneer bonding procedures
- Directly placed supra-gingival posterior restorations (Amalgams, gold, ceramic)
- Endodontic proceudres
- Posterior composite bonding procedures
- PRRs & Sealants
In which procedure is having a rubber dam mandatory?
Endodontics
Where does the clamp go?
On the tooth distal to the tooth you are working on
An ideal rubber dam should include what last tooth?
Include the contra-lateral cuspid while in school
What are some sizes of clamps for each Molar, Pre-molar and Anterior teeth
Molar: 14, W8
Pre-molar: 2A, W2
Anterior: 212, 9
On a molar clamp, which side of the clamp goes on the facial, the long arc side or the small arc?
Facial should always have the large arc
What hole punch do you use for the tooth you are going to clamp
4 - Molars, #3 - Premolars & canines, #2 - Maxillary incisors, #1 - Mandibular incisors
The largest hole, #5
2 options to placing clamp
Place clamp first (When tooth is difficult to see or hard to clamp)
Clamp as a unit (Most commonly used, convenient and fast)
Step by Step of rubber dam technique (14)
- Make sure pt is properly anesthetized
- Use Dam template and punch holes
- Get a winged clamp and safety floss the clamp
- Stretch the hole and insert both wings into the hole
- Lightly lubricate the rubber dam side that touches the teeth
- Loosely attach frame to RD
- Attach the forceps to the clamp
- Clamp the tooth distal to the one you are working on
- Stretch the rubber dam over the wings, so that tooth is sealed
- Anchor the rubber dam to the furthest hole (cuspid)
- Stretch the dam over the teeth keeping careful count
- Use floss to insert the dam material through the contacts
- Tuck in the septa & invert the rubber dam with flow, air, or double ended plastic instrument
- Adjust tension and position of RD with metal frame spokes
Use what frame for endodontic teeth?
Plastic frame?
