Rubber Dam + Clamps Flashcards
What teeth is the 26 clamp used for
Used for:
- first adult molar with visible cervical bulge
- second primary molar
What teeth is the 8A clamp used for?
Used for:
- second primary molar
- first, second, and third, adult molars with reduced DL cusp
What teeth is the 14 clamp used for
Used for:
- first and second adult molars with normal DL cusp
What teeth is the 14A clamp used for?
Used for:
- large adult first molars
Name the fully erupted teeth and partially erupted teeth clamps
Fully erupted:
- W2, W3, 27N, 26
Partial erupted:
-8A, 14, 14A
When considering clamp placement, what is the most important consideration?
When the abutment tooth has a lesion to be restored
What is the main function of fully erupted teeth clamps vs. the partial erupted teeth clamps?
Fully erupted - retraction
Partially erupted - retention
What is the 13A clamp and 12A clamp used for? What is their relationship to each other?
13A - LR and UL
12A - LL and UR
Both used for adult or large primary second molars
Their relationship: isomers
Where is the prong directed for fully erupted vs. partially erupted teeth?
Fully erupted - prong direct to side of tooth
Partially erupted - prong directed toward cervical portion of tooth
What are some advantages to retraction clamps?
- good retraction = good access to smooth surface
- 27N and 26 best for molar teeth
- if placed carefully, might not need palatial anesthesia
What are some advantages to retention clamps?
- can be used on teeth with cervical convexity
- can be used on teeth with cavosurface margin below the gingival margin
Where should you put the frame of the dam?
1 inch below the top of the dam
What does “positioning the H” for rubber dams accomplish?
It facilitates soft tissue reflections and decreases the chance for forces that can dislodge the clamp
To which tooth should the dam go up to if you are doing a procedure on more than a single tooth in the posterior? Why?
The mesial of the canine. This is because the mesial (convexity of the canine provides a reliable means of maintains the dam.
Why is it common for adult dams to have individual holes for teeth and extend to include more teeth?
Because adult teeth have greater clinical crown length and more Buccal + lingual contours
