What does connotations and denotations mean?
Connotation - what the word makes you think about.
Denotation - what the word literally means in that context
What is a metaphor?
(Uses words such as “IS”)
Metaphor - figure of speech that is used to make a comparison between 2 that aren’t alike but do have something in common.
When you use a metaphor, you are saying that a person, place, animal or thing IS some
e.g. your uncle is a giant
(Compares the uncle to a giant describing his size)
What is a simile?
A simile is a comparison between to things using the words “like” or “as”.
Type of imagery to help the reader imagine something more clearly.
e.g. He is as fast as a cheetah.
(Comparison between man and cheetah)
( make you think that the man is very fast)
What are the types of imagery?
Simile
Personification
Metaphor
What is sibilance?
more specific type of alliteration that relies on the repetition of soft consonant sounds in words to create a wooshing or hissing sound in the writing.
Example - Sally sells seashells by the seashore.
