A
  • Highlight key points in question that signal what you need to do
  • highlight key phrases in passage that helps
  • put into own words. Make sure amount written corresponds with mark allowance

  • quote the word or phrase
  • identify the technique as word choice
  • explain the words decoration (the literal meaning)
  • explain the words connotations (how it links to the passage)
  • link back to the question

  • identify the image used + quote (usually one word for metaphor or personification)
  • Explain what the image literally means (use the phrase JUST AS…)
  • Link analysis to writer’s intended/figurative meaning and explain how this answers the question (use the phrase SO THIS SUGGESTS…)

How to answer: evaluation questions

A
  • consider what a conclusion does (summation/solving a problem etc.)
  • examine the conclusion to see if it does this successfully
  • if so, quote from the passage and summary the author’s purpose throughout
  • then quote from the conclusion (an element that summaries etc) and explain how it contributes to the authors purpose
