Rsnal Tubular Acidosis Flashcards
1
Q
Salient features of RTA?
A
- GFR may be normal or slightly reduced
- Normal anion gap
- Hyperchloremia
- metabolic acidosis
- urinary bicarbonate
2
Q
Mechanisms behind renal tubular acidosis?
A
- Failure of the renal tubules to retain bicarbonate
- Failure of the renal tubules to secrete hydrogen ions
3
Q
Classification of RTA ?
A
- Type 1, Type 2, Type 4, Type 3
- dRTA - pRTA - Alsosterone resistance- mixed
4
Q
Salients features of TyPe 1 RTA? (Distal RTA)
A
- occurs commonly in children
- failure of distal tubules to secrete hydrogen ions
- urinary ph is >5.5
- metabolic acidosiswuth hyperchloremia
- hypocitraturia
- hypokalemia
- bicarbonaturia
- low ammonium ion in the urine
- Urolithiasis (stones in the tubules)
- Nephrocalcinosis (generalized calcium deposits in the kidneys)
- Muscle weakness
5
Q
Subtypes of Distal RTAvm?
A
- Classic dRTA
- Back leak dRTA
- Voltage dependent dRTA
- Incomplete dRTA
