Eli, Eli lema sabachthain?
meaning my God, my god why have you forsaken me?
Meaning of theodicy

Why is there evil and suffering in the world? (5)
-Free will
- Original sin (Massa pecati)
- To make us stronger
- God helps us through it
- To test our loyalty
What is the free will defence?
(4)
-God gave humans free will (the freedom to do what they want be themselves and make there own choices)
- Without free will, we would be robots and unable to make our own choices. preventing us from enjoying our lifes
- For example, Drunk driving is a choice and humans know that it has the potential to cause damage, including loss of life due to slowed reaction times, but they do it anyway.
-If god takes away this choice he takes our freedom and some would say the ability to have fun.
Original sin defence
- meaning (5)
- Original sin means the inability not to sin.
-During creation God created the world perfect and god protected humans by trapping all the sin and evil in the tree in the Garden of Eden (The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil)
- When Adam and Eve went against God’s wishes and ate from the tree it released sin into the world.
- As we are all descendants of Adam and Eve, which means we are born massa pecati, meaning (lump if sin)
- This suggests that there is a god and that god is omnipotent and that Adam and Eve disobeyed God and freeded that sin into the world.
To make us a stronger defence (4)
- God gives us challenges in order to help us to prepare for later life
- If something happens to you God does it to make us stronger. otherwise, one day we would not be prepared for a test.
- Trust in Gods omniscience and that god has a plan for everyone. And trust in God when things do go wrong and happen.
- Story of Job, God blessed Job with riches, then took them away all of a sudden and Job still worshiped god until he cursed God and then asked for his forgiveness. This shows that God does things for a reason. This allowed Job to form a stronger connection with god.
God helps us through it
(3 with quote)
“I will never leave you”
many Christians believe that there is evil and suffering in the world, but god is always there to support you and through your toughest times god carries you through it.
- Parable of the footprints in the sand. If you have faith in God, God will always be there to help you get through it.
- “So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
To test our loyalty defence (3)
God puts tests in our way to see if we will stay loyal to the christian faith.
- The story of Job, satan put Job through pain and suffering and Job stayed loyal and he was rewarded.
- Also shown in the parable of the sheep and the goats always follow God.
Basic Story of job
The story of Job begins in heaven, where Satan challenges Job’s righteousness. He tells God that Job is only faithful because he has been blessed with wealth and protection. God allows Satan to test Job’s faith by taking away his possessions, children, and health—but not his life. Despite intense suffering and confusion, Job never curses God. He questions his suffering, but remains faithful. In the end, God speaks to Job, restores his fortunes, and honors his perseverance, while rebuking Job’s friends who wrongly blamed him.
“The Lord said to Satan, ‘Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.’”
“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him.
What is it called when god takes himself out of Jesus
Kenosis

Kenosis

Hypostatic union
What are the 3 forms of God in the Trinity
- God the Father, god the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
God the Father - The non-Human spirit
God the Son - Himself and human form on Earth
God the Holy Spirit - A power or force
Why did God leave the holy spirit
When he knew that Jesus was not going to last forever so he could have a presence on earth.
- The Holy Spirit arrived on Earth in a new and powerful way on the day of Pentecost, after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension. This event is recorded in Acts 2 in the New Testament.
Why did the Holy spirit come
Why did the Holy Spirit come?
To fulfill Jesus’ promise: Before ascending, Jesus told His disciples He would send the Holy Spirit to help, guide, and empower them (John 14:16–17, Acts 1:8).
To empower believers: The Spirit gave the disciples boldness, wisdom, and the ability to speak in different languages to spread the gospel.
To begin the Church: Pentecost marks the birth of the Christian Church, as thousands were baptized and joined the faith that day.
