A

Means to ‘immerse in water’. A sacrament which is a rite of initiation to become a member of the church.

The celebration of breaking the fast after Ramadan ends.

Muslims will celebrate by having a meal with friends and family and donating zakat-ul-fitr.

A

Supressing and limiting access to materials or speech that are considered obscene, offensive or a threat to security.

Article 19 of the Declaration of Human Rights states everyone has the right to express their views but if these views cause harm or offence the government may censor it.

Treating others differently by acting on your prejudice.

Racism is a form of discrimination.

The basic entitlements we are all entitled to because we are human.

The Declaration of Human Rights states that all people have the right to an education.

A

Pre-judging: judging people to be inferior or superior without a cause.

The Bible implies that prejudice is wrong, ’God does not show favouritism.’

Relative Poverty

A

When people have enough for their basic needs but do not have enough in relation to others in society.

Someone could be considered to be in relative poverty if they could not afford luxuries such as a TV.

A

Where people cannot access the most
basic of their human needs; sever deprivation.

If someone cannot afford food or have a home they would be in absolute poverty.

A

Promoting a fair society by challenging injustice and ensuring everyone has equal opportunities and rights.

The Qur’an makes it clear that it is a Muslim’s duty to promote social justice, ‘Believers stand up firmly for justice.’

Having sex with someone who is not your marriage partner while you are married.

Christians believe adultery is wrong, it breaks the commandment, ‘Do not commit adultery’.

Living with your partner, having a sexual relationship, but you are not married to them.

Traditional Christians do not approve as they believe the Bible suggests sex before marriage is wrong.

Muslims believe they have a responsibility to carry out the 5 pillars of their faith.

Position, function or status of a person in society, as well as the characteristics or behaviours we expect that person to have.

A role of a parent is to love, support and train their children to be responsible citizens.
