RPA03: Resistance Flashcards
What is the aim
Investigate how the resistance of a wire depends on its length and how resistance varies in a series and parallel circuit
What is step one of measuring resistance of a wire
Set up a simple circuit
Step 2 of measuring resistance of a wire
Attach a length of wire a long a metre rule and attach a crocodile clip to one end
Step three of measuring resistance of a wire of measuring resistance of a wire
Attach A crocodile clip at a range of lengths on the ruler and record both the current and voltage through the wire
Step four of measuring resistance of a wire
Repeat step three for each length
Step five of measuring resistance of a wire
Calculate resistance using: V = I x R
Step six of measuring resistance of a wire
Plot a graph of the length against the resistance of the wire
Step one of measuring resistance within a circuit
Construct a circuit with resistors arranged in series
Step two of measuring resistance within a circuit
Switch on power supply and close switch
Step three of measuring resistance within a circuit
Record the voltage and current
Step four of measuring resistance within a circuit
Construct a circuit with resistors arranged in parallel and repeat step two and three
Step five of measuring resistance within a circuit
Calculate total resistance using: V=IxR
