RP06 CIMS Flashcards
What does CIMS mean?
Co-ordinated Incident Management System
A multi-agency response to incidents
When you attend a crash, what does EACOM help with?
EACOM is your list of priorities
E - eliminate danger A - attend to injured C - call for assistance O - obtain witnesses M - mobility
When attending a vehicle crash, update comms with…
- assistance required
- occupants of vehicle trapped
- actual and potential hazards
- best route for emergency services to approach the scene
- exact location
- emergency services on scene and those still required
- type of incident, including details of vehicles and number involved
- number of casualties, including age, sex, injury status (0-4) and if they were a driver or a passenger
- consider using a Officer Safety Alarm (OSA) to get exact location
E - Eliminate danger
Hazards to look for -
• treat all wires as live If powerlines are down, contact local power authority • fuel leaks • vehicles with LPG • un-deployed air bags • dangerous goods
A - Attend injuries
- ascertain the number of injured, and the severity of the injuries and put them in order of priority until assistance arrives.
- if the injured are in danger of further injury, move them to a place of safety ASAP. Do not move patients with neck or back injuries unless their life is in danger.
C - Call for assistance
Supply comms with as much info as possible so they can contact the right services as they may take time to deploy.
Consider - • fire • field supervisor • ambulance • additional police such as highway patrol, SCU • local linesman if powerlines are down • local road management to control traffic or establish road blocks or diversions • vet if stock involved
O - Obtain witnesses
- identify drivers & passengers, obtain details and advise them not to leave scene if possible.
- breath/blood alcohol on all drivers. If driver unknown all occupants to be tested.
- ASAP identify all witnesses. Obtain their contact details so you can interview them later if they need to leave.
- obtain original caller details and follow up if not on scene.
- consider CCTV footage
DEPENDING on the seriousness of the crash it may not be the appropriate time to take a statement from person involved or those that witnesses it so at a minimum their contact details are to be obtained.
M - Mobility devices
- photograph the scene
- conduct QP&QPR
- calling other parties
- commence Traffic Crash Report via On Duty
- SITREP event to Comms via mobile responder
Scene Photography…
At a serious crash, have a forensic photographer attend. If none available, call SCU or SOCO
