Identify different driver licence types issued under the graduated driver licensing scheme;
- Learners licence
- Restricted licence
- Full licence
What are the conditions of a learner licence?
- Driver must be accompanied by a supervisor who has held full licence for 2+ years
- Driver must carry the learner licence while driving and produce it on demand
- Driver must display two āLā plates
What are the conditions of a restricted licence?
- When driving between 10pm - 5am, driver must be accompanied by a supervisor who has held full licence for 2+ years
- If carrying passengers, driver must be accompanied by a supervisor who has held full licence for 2+ years UNLESS passengers are their spouse/dependents
- Driver must carry their restricted licence while driving and produce on demand
What are the conditions of a full licence?
- Learner/restricted conditions do not apply.
- Driver must carry full licence on them and produce on demand
What is the time limit for holding Learner and Restricted licences?
- They expire after 5 years
- Resit test required to renew licence
- The time limit encourages people to move onto next licence stage.
What are the four classess of driving standards?
1. Inconsiderate driving inattention 2. Careless driving below norm standards, not indicating 3. Dangerous driving speed, overtaking 4. Reckless driving knowingly/deliberately, failing to stop at red at speed
Explain inconsiderate driving;
Driving that includes inattention or thoughtless actions or omissions, as well as deliberate ones, which is inconsiderate to the other road users.
EG Deliberately driving at low speed as to hinder traffic.
Explain careless driving;
Falling below the driving standards of a reasonable prudent motorist.
EG colliding with a parked car while driving along a street.
Explain dangerous driving;
Driving in a manner or speed which was or might have been dangerous to anyone.
EG Driving 80kph in at 50kph zone at 0830hrs in a busy school area.
Explain reckless driving;
- Knowingly disregarding ones duty as a driver.
- Deliberately running an unjustifiable risk of injury or colliion.
EG Knowingly trying to outrun a patrol car at night, turns lights off, endangers public safety
