Describe the timeline of England under Richard (9)
A
- 1189 July - Richard becomes King
- 189 December - Richard leaves England for France
- 1190 - Richard departs on crusade appointing Longchamp as justiciar
- 1191 - John arrives in England stirs up rebellions and seizes some castles
- 1192 - Richard is captured
- 1193 - John pays homage to Philip II and seizes more castles in England, declares Richard dead and himself King
- 1194 - Richard returns to England, takes control and leaves for France
- 1198 - Geoffrey Fitz Peter becomes justiciar
- 1199 - Richard is killed in France

A
- Loyal to Richard but unpopular with English barons
- October 1191 was deposed after leading barons joined with Prince John in rebellion against him
- Richard sent Water to be new justiciar but John continued to cause problems

- 1191 John arrived in England and encouraged barons to rebel
- Hired sherrifs to collect his taxes and seize control of castles
- 1193 John attempted to seize the throne and paid homage for Richard’s lands in France
- Returned to England and declared that Ricard was dead
- Coutances met barons and decided to believe Richard was alive and to pay the ransom
- After Richard’s release John surrenders the castles and begged for mercy . Richard forgave John
